Specialty selection is nearing completion. After the selection results are announced, the admission process to higher education institutions will begin.
In state higher education institutions, students belonging to certain categories are exempt from tuition fees. These categories include persons with forced migrant status, persons deprived of parental care, persons with disabilities, persons with martyr family status, children of martyrs and war invalids, as well as war veterans.
But how is this issue regulated in private higher education institutions? Are persons belonging to the mentioned categories also exempt from tuition fees in private universities?
AzEdu.az has sent an inquiry to private higher education institutions regarding the topic.
In response to our inquiry from Azerbaijan University, it was stated that persons belonging to the following categories are exempt from tuition fees:
"The tuition fees for children of citizens who became disabled during the defense of the territorial integrity, independence, and constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan; who died for the freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan; who went missing in connection with military operations and were declared dead by the court, are paid from the state budget in the amount of educational expenses approved by the Decision No. 120 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 25, 2010, and the remaining part is paid from the budget of Azerbaijan University.
The tuition fees for persons who have received the title of "War Veteran" for participating in combat operations for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan are paid from the state budget in the amount of educational expenses approved by the Decision No. 120 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 25, 2010, starting from the 2023/2024 academic year, and the remaining part is paid from the budget of Azerbaijan University.
According to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on amendments to the Law "On Education", the tuition fees for members of martyr families are paid in full from the state budget.
The tuition fees for students up to 23 years old who have lost both parents; who are deprived of parental care or whose one parent has died and the other parent is a Group I or II disabled person, are paid in full from the state budget.
The tuition fees for persons with Group I and II disabilities, due to 61-100 percent impairment of p functions, as well as persons with disabilities under 18 years of age with limited health capabilities, are paid in full from the state budget".
According to information from Khazar University, students are subject to both state-provided concessions and those determined by the university itself:
"All exemptions and concessions determined by the Cabinet of Ministers and implemented to date (with the exception of persons with forced migrant status - this is only valid in state universities) are also applied at Khazar University. In addition, there are concessions determined by the university itself (based on the scores obtained). This is why the number of applicants to Khazar University increases year by year. We hope that this year will be the same".
It was noted by Azerbaijan Cooperation University that, in addition to state concessions, tuition fee concessions are also applied for students who show high academic results at the university.
"All decisions adopted by our state in the relevant field are also applied in our university. In addition to tuition fee exemptions for the listed categories, we also have scholarship programs and other socially oriented programs.
Furthermore, by the decision of the University's Scientific Council, for many years now, students who receive 'excellent' grades in all subjects for the semester are exempt from tuition fees in the next academic year. That is, in addition to these concessions, there are also socially oriented decisions determined by the university itself".
Baku Eurasian University (BAU) stated that tuition fee exemptions and concessions are applied at the university:
"Tuition fee exemptions or concessions are applied for persons deprived of parental care, persons with disabilities, persons with martyr family status, children of martyrs and war invalids, as well as war veterans".
