It has been revealed that artificial intelligence companies have destroyed millions of physical copies of printed books after purchasing and digitizing them for model training purposes.
According to information obtained by AzEdu.az from foreign media, the US artificial intelligence company Anthropic legally purchased the books, had their bindings removed, scanned the pages, and converted them into digital format.
It is reported that after the digitization process was completed, the unbound and unusable paper parts were sent for recycling.
According to the information, the company used the content of millions of books in this way to train its artificial intelligence model.
It should be noted that the issue emerged during copyright litigation in the US and the digitization of books in this manner has led to widespread discussions about copyright, as well as the preservation of cultural heritage.
