The "Collins" English dictionary, published in Great Britain, has chosen the word "mogging" as the word of the year.
AzEdu.az reports that the word of the year is the expression "mogging".
Mogging refers to an action taken with the aim of overshadowing someone or something, or demonstrating superiority over them. It is believed that this word originated from the jargon abbreviation AMOG (Alpha Male Of the Group) used among young people. This expression translates as "alpha male of the group".
According to the "Collins" dictionary, the word "mogging" is increasingly used in a humorous and ironic sense by representatives of "Generation Z" and "Generation Alpha". This expression is mainly used to describe situations where one person overshadows another.
The shortlist for word of the year also included "carspreading" (taking up too much space in a car), "manchesterism", "firewave", "ghost jobs" (fake vacancies) and other expressions.
It should be noted that the "Collins" dictionary has been published since 1979. In 2025, the dictionary chose the term "vibecoding" as the word of the year.
