The Danish government has started implementing new rules in high schools to prevent plagiarism through artificial intelligence.
AzEdu.az reports, citing foreign media, that starting from the new academic year, students aged 16-19 will have to orally defend their written assignments.
The decision came into force after an appeal by Minister of Education Magnus Heunicke regarding the increase in plagiarism cases using artificial intelligence. The minister stated that it is necessary to take urgent measures to prevent this problem in schools.
According to the new rules, approximately 9,000 high school students who prepare large-volume written work each year will orally defend these works before teachers. The Ministry of Education announced that it will work with schools on the implementation of this mechanism.
In addition, monitoring programs will be implemented to control computer use in written exams, and access to certain internet resources will be restricted on school networks during exams and lessons.
The government also plans to encourage students to prepare written assignments at school, under supervised conditions. The goal is to monitor the work process, provide prompt teacher feedback, and ensure a more objective assessment.
The Danish Ministry of Education is also currently developing a unified national strategy for the use of artificial intelligence in schools. It is stated that the use of this technology should not negatively affect students' independent thinking and assessment of their knowledge.
It should be noted that a similar problem is observed in other European countries. According to a study conducted in Sweden, the number of students who received a warning or disciplinary action for unauthorized use of artificial intelligence increased by 688 percent between 2023 and 2025.
