Scientists have developed new viruses with artificial intelligence

US scientists have developed fully functional viruses that can replicate in the laboratory using artificial intelligence. This marks the first time in history that entire genomes have been designed by artificial intelligence.

AzEdu.az reports, citing foreign media, that the 16 new viruses created in the laboratory were designed only to infect bacteria and do not pose a threat to human health.

Researchers stated that artificial intelligence was trained based on the genetic information of viruses, bacteria, and other living organisms. Hundreds of variants were prepared and tested in the laboratory, and 16 of them were found to be effective in destroying E. coli bacteria.

According to scientists, this technology could help develop new methods for treating antibiotic-resistant infections in the future.

In addition, experts emphasize that the development of viruses through artificial intelligence also creates new risks in terms of biosafety. They believe that it is important for such technologies to be developed only within the framework of strict safety rules.

The authors of the study noted that to minimize risks, the research was conducted only on viruses that infect bacteria, not humans, and under safe laboratory conditions.
