Another intense and event-filled week in the field of education has passed.
On one hand, thousands of graduates bid farewell to their school years with the “Last Bell”, while on the other hand, processes related to admission exams, teacher recruitment, admission to lyceums, and the new academic year continued rapidly.
Among the most discussed topics of the week were the impact of technology on education, the use of artificial intelligence, and the future of textbooks.
Within the framework of AzEdu.az's “Weekly Education Review” column, we present the main events that determined the education agenda.
At the beginning of the week, processes related to admission issues were in the spotlight. Registration for the second attempt of the second stage of admission exams for I, II, III, and IV specialty groups was completed. According to the latest information, more than 60,000 applicants have registered to participate in the exam.
At the same time, electronic registration for admission to the VII grades of a number of lyceums and gymnasiums operating in Baku and the regions for the 2026-2027 academic year was launched. The registration process will continue until June 19.
The week was also marked by important innovations for teachers. The registration phase of the teacher recruitment competition ended, and more than 40,000 candidates registered in the system. After the verification of information, confirmed candidates will proceed to the payment stage, and test exams are planned to be held at the beginning of July.
One of the most discussed topics of the week was the ideas expressed by Minister Emin Amrullayev in his various speeches. The Minister stated that children's interest in video content is already a reality and it will not be possible to change this with prohibitions. According to him, electronic learning opportunities will expand further in the future.
The Minister also emphasized that improper use of artificial intelligence can negatively affect children's thinking ability. He noted that students prefer to get ready answers from artificial intelligence instead of learning how to solve problems, which creates a serious risk for the future.
One of the most resonant ideas was related to the future of textbooks. Emin Amrullayev believes that traditional textbooks may largely lose their importance within the next three years as a result of the development of artificial intelligence technologies. In his opinion, artificial intelligence already provides higher quality explanations and tasks in many cases.
Digital security was also on the agenda of the week. Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov announced that access to “TikTok” has been blocked in schools, internet usage is filtered, and restrictions are applied to more than 200 dangerous contents.
In the field of culture, it was announced that employees working in information technologies in the library system would be attested. It was stated that employees considered professional would continue their activities in the new system, and decisions regarding unsuitable individuals would be made in accordance with the legislation.
On June 13, “Last Bell” events were held in all general education institutions of the country. This year, more than 116,000 students bid farewell to school. The “Last Bell” was also celebrated in 25 schools operating in the liberated territories, and in 11 of them, this event was held for the first time.
One of the memorable images of the week was the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev dancing with graduates in Ganja.
At the end of the week, attention once again turned to the master's admission exam. Thousands of bachelors could not participate in the master's admission exam organized on June 17 due to unstable and rainy weather conditions. The State Examination Center, taking a humane approach to the issue, decided to re-hold the exam for these individuals. More than 15,000 bachelors participated in the re-organized stage of the master's admission exam last weekend.
Thus, the past week in the field of education was remembered with decisions, discussions, and emotional moments.
