UNICEF has announced that the ongoing clashes in Lebanon have severe and devastating consequences for children.
AzEdu.az, citing foreign media, reports that according to the latest information released by the organization, the increasing tension in the region is causing serious losses, especially among young children.
UNICEF stated that as a result of Israeli airstrikes carried out at a time when hopes for a ceasefire were rising, 33 children lost their lives and 153 children were injured in a single day. Since March 2, the number of children killed or injured across the country has reached 600.
The report notes that along with children rescued from the rubble, there are still reports of missing or separated minors.
As a result of the clashes, the number of internally displaced persons in the country has exceeded 1 million. Approximately 390,000 of them are children. Families are forced to leave areas where social infrastructure has been destroyed due to bombings.
UNICEF, reminding that children and civilians must be protected under all circumstances in accordance with international humanitarian law, called on the parties for an immediate ceasefire. The organization also demanded an end to the use of explosive weapons with a wide radius of effect, especially in densely populated areas.
