Admission's II attempt: DO NOT make these mistakes at the most important stage

Exams will also be held for the second attempt of the admission exam. At this stage, many applicants find it difficult to determine where and how to start preparing.

We have previously talked about exam preparation strategy. But it is interesting, how should the preparation for the second attempt be? Is it more appropriate to start preparing by working on specific topics, or is an accelerated general review more beneficial? Which approach should applicants prefer at this stage?

Xazri Muradov, winner of the “Young Teacher of the Year” competition, tutor teacher and head of the preparation course, spoke to AzEdu.az about the topic.

He noted that the second attempt of the admission exam is a new chance for many applicants, and for some, an opportunity to further improve their results:

“In my experience, I have observed that some of the students who achieved high results in the first exam stop preparing, while others do not approach their lessons with the same responsibility as before. However, this last month is one of the most important periods that can seriously change the result.

At this stage, instead of learning new topics, it is necessary to consolidate existing knowledge, analyze mistakes made, and prioritize intensive test solving. The applicant must first identify their weak points, and then work purposefully in those directions. Accelerated general review is also important, but the main focus should be on eliminating mistakes and improving time management.”

If I were in an applicant's shoes today, considering the reduction in school obligations, I would dedicate most of my time to review, mock exams, and test assignments:

“The school year is already ending, and students have more time at their disposal. We have seen improvements of 50-100 points, sometimes even more, in the results of applicants who use this time correctly, work according to a daily plan, and increase their test solving. I have numerous examples of this in my practice.

The biggest problem, however, is fatigue and a decrease in the sense of responsibility. This is natural after a year of intense preparation. But it is at this point that character and will come to the fore. As the famous commander Napoleon Bonaparte said: “Victory belongs to the most persevering.” It is necessary to increase, not decrease, speed in the last meters.

If I were in an applicant's shoes today, considering the reduction in school obligations, I would dedicate most of my time to review, mock exams, and test assignments. Because the second attempt is not a stage of accumulating knowledge, but of converting existing knowledge into maximum results.

It should not be forgotten that the exam does not determine fate, but it is an important stage that shows the fruits of hard work. Those who correctly evaluate this last month will not be faced with a choice in August, but will be the ones making the choice.”
