How many hours can directors and deputy directors teach per week? - RULES

School directors and deputy directors, in addition to their main duties, can also teach subjects corresponding to their specialization.

But how much teaching load can be given to individuals working in leadership positions?

AzEdu.az reports that this issue is regulated by the “Norms on the teaching load (pedagogical work) of heads, administrative-economic, teaching-assistant and other employees of educational, training-educational institutions in addition to their positions, according to their specializations” approved by order No. 59 dated January 26, 1999.

Directors and deputy directors can teach up to 12 hours

According to the Norms, directors and their deputies of general education schools, including boarding schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, vocational schools and vocational lyceums, in addition to receiving a full salary for their main work, can teach up to 12 hours per week and 480 hours per year in the educational institution where they work, in accordance with their specialization.

This teaching load is determined by including it in the tariffication list at the beginning of the academic year.

An additional 6 hours is possible if there is a teacher shortage

If there is a shortage of teachers for a relevant specialized subject or if other necessary needs arise, directors and deputies may also be given an additional teaching load.

For this, the consent of the superior organization to which the educational institution is subordinate is required. In this case, the leading employee can be given an additional 6 hours per week and up to 240 hours during the academic year, and the salary for these lessons is paid on an hourly basis.

Thus, the main teaching load for a director and deputy director receiving a full salary in their school, according to their specialization, can be up to 12 hours, and in necessary cases, up to 18 hours with an additional 6 hours.

The limit for leading employees working 0.5 staff is different

The Norms provide a separate rule for leading employees receiving 0.5 staff salary.

Such individuals can teach up to 18 hours per week and 720 hours per year in the educational institution where they work, according to their specialization.

If there is a teacher shortage or other necessary need, an additional teaching load of up to 6 hours can be given with the consent of the superior organization.

It is also possible to teach in another school

The rules allow leading employees to teach subjects according to their specialization not only in the school where they work but also in another educational institution.

A leading employee receiving a full salary can teach up to 6 hours per week and 240 hours per year in another nearby educational institution with the consent of the superior organization.

For leading employees receiving 0.5 staff salary, this indicator is up to 12 hours per week and 480 hours per year.

There are also teaching opportunities for other school staff

The rules do not only cover directors and deputies. Opportunities are also created for administrative-economic and teaching-assistant staff, methodologists, psychologists, and children's union leaders in general education schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, vocational schools, and vocational lyceums to teach subjects according to their specialization.

These employees receiving a full salary can teach up to 12 hours per week and 480 hours per year in the institution where they work, while those working 0.5 staff can teach up to 18 hours per week and 720 hours per year.

In addition to receiving a full salary at their main workplace, they can also teach up to 6 hours per week in another educational institution according to their specialization, while those working 0.5 staff can teach up to 12 hours per week. The salary for these lessons is paid on a substitute or hourly basis.

Pedagogical experience is calculated for non-pedagogical staff teaching 120 hours

There is another notable point in the legislation.

If specialists attracted from outside to teach in general education schools, lyceums and gymnasiums, vocational schools and vocational lyceums, and non-pedagogical staff working in these educational institutions teach at least 120 hours during the year, the months they teach are counted as pedagogical experience for them.

It should be noted that the weekly teaching load for teachers in general education schools, gymnasiums and lyceums, as well as vocational schools and vocational lyceums, is also set at 12 hours per ставка (full-time equivalent). This norm is enshrined in the relevant decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.

In other words, it is possible for directors and deputy directors to teach according to the legislation, and specific teaching load norms have been established for this activity.
