The European Union (EU) Commission is seriously considering the issue of banning children's use of social media.
AzEdu.az reports, citing foreign media, that officials of the institution emphasized that all possible options in this direction are on the table and the possibilities of implementing a unified regulation across the EU are being investigated.
At the daily press conference held regarding the issue, EU Commission spokesperson Thomas Renye answered journalists' questions. He noted that consultations are continuing within the framework of close cooperation with member states to ensure the digital safety of children.
Renye stated that the Commission currently intends to manage the process professionally before making a concrete decision. For this purpose, a special panel of experts is being created. It will become clear whether any step will be taken at the legislative level only after the opinions and recommendations of this expert group.
The spokesperson, stating that an inclusive approach is being demonstrated to the process, emphasized that the experts will represent various fields. Renye noted that the work is currently in its initial stages and added that a precise timetable for the implementation of the ban or other regulatory mechanisms has not yet been determined.
