"Our mother tongue is the passport that confirms our national identity."
AzEdu.az reports that these words were said by the pro-rector of ADPU, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Mahira Huseynova during her speech at the republican conference with the participation of youth titled "Mother Tongue: Identity and Future".
She stated that important work is being done at the ANAS Nasimi Institute of Linguistics:
"Today, very significant work has been carried out at the Institute of Linguistics under the leadership of Mammad muallim. Everyone sees this, and the benefit of this activity for society is undeniable. Nevertheless, I think there is also a serious need for the preparation of an etymological dictionary.
Research in this direction should be further expanded. Just as ideological preparation in education is of great importance, the study of language and toponyms is equally vital. Mr. President also noted at the event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the academy that the name "Goycha lake" is used on the map, not "Sevan". There are numerous such facts, and it is necessary to investigate toponyms from an etymological point of view.
No name arises by chance. For example, there are hundreds of toponyms such as Comardlik village, later Comardli village, related to the ancestors of the great leader. It is important to research these scientifically. Because knowing yesterday determines the future.
Our mother tongue is the passport, the seal that confirms our national identity. It is difficult to find a stronger expression for it. Language is our existence.
Hopes should never die. The main point here is for a person to keep their hopes alive. Language also develops as hopes live on.
I believe that today's students will keep alive the words, names, and facts from the past, and bring them back into literature and artistic thought. I used the word "ləyri" in my poems, and many people asked about the meaning of this word. However, such words show the richness of our language and cannot be replaced by other expressions. It is important to bring such words back into our language.
We must do this. Because Mr. President's decrees are the main direction of state policy, and we are the implementers of this policy. Most importantly, we are the bearers of this language. This language is our mother's lullaby, our identity."
