In recent days, the results of the exams for the II and III specialty groups were announced. The highest result for the II specialty group was 397 points, and for the III specialty group, it was 400 points. Based on the sum of the results of both stages, the highest overall result for the III specialty group is 690 points.
It is known that this year the number of applicants registered for the II specialty group was higher compared to the III group. Considering the overall results, it can be said that the picture for both groups is quite encouraging.
In this case, the question arises: can it be said that the passing scores for specialty groups will also increase? Last year, a certain increase in passing scores was observed. Against the background of this year's announced results, it is interesting whether this trend will continue.
Education expert Elchin Afandi, who gave a statement to AzEdu.az on the topic, noted that a greater increase in scores will be observed in prestigious specialties included in both the II and III specialty groups:
"In the current situation, it is not yet possible to definitively say that passing scores for any specialties will increase. The main reason for this is the upcoming second attempt exams. Many unclear points will be clarified precisely after these exams.
Nevertheless, when comparing the current number of participants, it appears that this factor will have a certain impact on the scores. Although there is a possibility of a decrease in scores for some specialties, a greater increase in scores will be observed in prestigious specialties included in both the II and III specialty groups.
In any case, the main decisive factor is the results of the second attempt exams. The experience of the last 10 years shows that applicants improve their results in the second attempt compared to the first. This progress, in any case, directly affects the overall competition situation and results in higher scores."
According to education expert Elchin Murad, an increase of approximately 5-10 points in the first, second, and third groups is more likely to be expected among specialties ranging from 200 points to 350-400 points:
"This year, the number of time-consuming, i.e., attention-demanding and more thought-provoking questions in the graduation exam was high. This situation led to a decrease in the number of applicants who scored 300 full points in the country. On the other hand, the block exam being easier compared to previous years gives reason to predict that there will not be a sharp rise or fall in scores. However, the exact picture will become clear after the statistics are known.
In the current situation, it can be said that in all groups, especially in the first, second, and third groups, an increase of approximately 5-10 points is more likely to be expected among specialties ranging from 200 points to 350-400 points. Specifically, an increase in scores is expected in specialties located in the range of 200-400 points in the first group, 200-350 points in the second group, and 200-400 points in the third group.
Due to the small number of high scorers in the graduation exam, a sharp increase is not expected in specialties above 400 points. On the contrary, a certain decrease (approximately 5-10 points) may be observed in high-scoring specialties in the range of 400-700 points, especially those between 500-700 points. In any case, it is impossible to say definitively how much the scores will rise or fall without full statistics and comparisons with previous years."
