Every year, thousands of applicants face serious competition in the specialty selection stage to be admitted to higher education institutions. Especially in the second specialty group, due to the large number of applications and limited plan places, high tension is expected in the admission process this year as well.
According to education expert Elchin Afandi, who gave a statement to AzEdu.az on the topic, when we look at the situation with the specialties included in the second specialty group, we see that the number of applicants this year is quite high:
“Compared to last year, an increase in the number of applicants participating in the competition based on the admission exam of the State Examination Center is observed this year. Only according to the main admission results, 2566 more participants were registered. In addition, considering those who want to participate directly in the second attempt, as well as winners of subject Olympiads, the number of applications is expected to increase even more.
When compared with the plan places, it appears that the number of participants is much higher. For example, last year the total number of plan places allocated for the second specialty group was 14,935. However, more than 25 thousand applicants participated in the competition. As a result, approximately 11-12 thousand people could not pass the competition.
This year, the number of plan places for the second specialty group is also expected to be approximately 15 thousand and slightly more. However, the number of applicants is close to 28,528. This statistic shows that more than 13 thousand applicants may again be left out of the competition. Additionally, if those who do not make the correct specialty choice and those who do not meet the competition conditions are taken into account, there is a possibility that approximately more than 15 thousand applicants may not be admitted in the first round”.
The expert stated that the areas most preferred by applicants in the II specialty group are finance, economics, and business management specialties:
“After that come international trade and logistics, accounting, state and municipal management, management and marketing specialties. The most serious competition is observed precisely in these specialties.
Applicants who score relatively low, especially those with results around 150 points, prefer tourism business organization, tourism guiding, and marketing specialties. Some other applicants choose admission to university as their main goal and select specialties such as statistics, hydrometeorology, sociology, transport service, information management, and communication.
As for university selection, in recent years, ADA University, Baku Higher Oil School, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, and Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University are among the higher education institutions most preferred by applicants. In the subsequent ranks come Baku State University, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Azerbaijan Technical University, Baku Engineering University, and Khazar University.
Overall, when comparing the existing plan places with the number of applications, it appears that approximately 15 thousand people are likely to be left out of the competition in the second specialty group this year as well. Therefore, applicants who meet the competition conditions must be extremely careful when choosing a specialty. In addition, the chances of sub-bachelors are not very high in the II specialty group this year compared to previous years”.
