Next year, master's admission scores may drop - FORECAST
Since the essay stage was introduced in the master's admission exam, candidates who score maximum points are almost never encountered. This indicates that the assessment of writing skills affects the overall results, causing scores to drop. Now, it is planned to add speaking skills (“speaking”) to the exam.

It is interesting, can the addition of the speaking stage to the master's exam cause the overall results to drop even further?

Education expert Elchin Afandiyev (Afandi) spoke to AzEdu.az on the topic.

He noted that the addition of the "speaking" stage to the exam could lead to changes in the passing scores for specialties, causing a decrease of up to 4-5 points in some cases:

“The addition of the essay to the master's admission process did not go unnoticed in the exam results of bachelors. In recent years, we observe that, unfortunately, there are no bachelors who show high results in general, that is, those who achieve maximum results are not recorded.

Now, the addition of the speaking stage will, of course, affect the results to a certain extent. This will also affect the passing scores formed for specialties in the master's direction in the next year. That is, a decrease of at least 1-2, and a maximum of 4-5 points may be observed in the scores.

But, of course, we must definitely check the writing of the essay, that is, the writing skills of bachelors, as well as their listening and speaking skills. Because master's degree constitutes a special stage of education in the scientific research direction.”

It is important to check the foreign language knowledge of bachelors in terms of speaking, writing, and listening:

“What is important for us is that our citizens pursuing master's education conduct their research work related to their specialty correctly. Literature resources, that is, resources, should be sufficiently accessible to them. Ensuring accessibility here is closely related to foreign language knowledge.

As you know, there are not many resources in our own language. Therefore, foreign sources are mainly preferred. Especially resources in English and Russian, as well as materials presented in German, French, and other languages. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to check the foreign language knowledge of bachelors in terms of speaking, writing, and listening.

As for the issue of objective assessment, of course, assessment is the main important factor here. I believe that the State Examination Center will approach this process more carefully and we will not encounter any non-objective situations in the assessment of any bachelor.”
