Based on the results of the graduation exam held on March 9, the number of applicants who scored the maximum - 300 points was only 2 people. However, the participants of the exam held on March 15 claimed that the questions were easier compared to the previous exam.
At this point, such a question arises: can the fact that the questions in the March 15 exam were easier lead to an increase in the number of applicants who scored the maximum result - 300 points?
Education expert Sevinj Purkeshtasib spoke to AzEdu.az about the topic.
He noted that to score 300 points, the student's knowledge level alone is not enough, in addition, the ability to work without mistakes is also important:
“There are claims that the graduation exams held in the second zone were relatively easier. But I don't think so. Because the issue is not whether the questions are easy or not. In fact, after the first exam, students better understood the existing problem and the importance of proper time allocation. In the second exam, the vast majority of students paid special attention to time allocation.
As for the ease of the questions, it is not correct to say that this situation automatically causes the scores to decrease or increase. For example, when the questions become easier, students who show average and weak results can score more points. That is, the overall result increases.
But why is the maximum score not always high? To score 300 points, the knowledge level of the student or applicant alone is not enough. In addition, the ability to work without mistakes is also important.
That is, in parallel with knowledge, attention, proper time management, and sometimes psychological stability also play an important role. As a result, even if the questions are relatively easy, not everyone can answer 100% correctly."
The expert stated that if the March 15 exam was easier than the March 9 exam, there is a possibility that the number of those who scored 300 points will increase:
“If the exam has become significantly easier or there are fewer "trap questions", i.e., confusing tasks, then the number of those who score 300 points may increase. But sometimes this indicator does not change. Because even in very easy exams, small carelessness occurs, some questions still have a selective nature, and the total number of the strongest applicants is not very high.
We can conclude that if the March 15 exam was indeed easier than the March 9 exam, there is a possibility that the number of those who scored 300 points will increase. However, this increase may not be sharp. Because the maximum result depends not only on ease, but more on the ability to work without mistakes. That is, no matter how easy the questions are, even a small carelessness can prevent you from scoring 300 points."
The expert added that students who took the exam in the second zone tried to learn from the mistakes made in the first zone:
“In my opinion, it can be concluded that there is no sharp difference between the March 9 and March 15 exam questions. That is, no significant differences are observed in terms of the ease or difficulty level of the questions.
Simply put, students who took the exam in the second zone tried to learn from the mistakes made in the first zone. The main issue was time allocation. Especially in the Azerbaijani language subject, the large and relatively confusing text caused dissatisfaction in the first exam. I think that in the second zone, the applicants took this into account and acted more carefully."
