The Oxford English Dictionary has announced "ragebait" (rage bait, literal translation - bait for anger, trap) as the word of 2025.
AzEdu.az reports that Oxford University Press (OUP), the publishing house of Oxford University, stated this on its website.
The publishing house emphasized that the word of the year is a perfect summary of the chaos in 2025. The dictionary defined "ragebait" as follows: this is online content specifically designed to provoke anger or outrage, typically by using provocative or offensive elements, with the aim of increasing engagement on a particular webpage or social network.
OUP explained the word's popularity with a more conscious use of the internet.
Last year, the Oxford dictionary had chosen "brainrot" (brain rot, literally - brain decay) as the word of the year.
