An employee of Turkey's Gümüşhane University took another employee hostage with a weapon.

According to the information, a male employee of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, located in the main campus of Gümüşhane University in the Bağlarbaşı district, who had served as a specialist sergeant, took a female official working in the same faculty hostage with a weapon. The reason for his action is not yet known.
A large number of special operations police officers were deployed to the scene. The area around the school was evacuated, and snipers were positioned on the roofs. Access to both the campus area and the faculty has been brought under control. Police continue their efforts to persuade the hostage-taker to change his mind.
