NUMBER of young people martyred under the age of 23 in the Patriotic War

The Second Karabakh – 44-day Patriotic War is remembered as an unparalleled page of heroism in Azerbaijan's military history. In this war, which took place in September-November 2020, thousands of young sons of the homeland sacrificed their lives for the liberation of our lands, ascending to the peak of martyrdom.

According to information obtained by AzEdu.az, during the war, 651 young servicemen born in 2000–2002, i.e., aged 18-20, as well as 416 servicemen born in 1998–1999, aged 21-22, were martyred in battles for the Motherland. In total, 1067 young heroes aged 18-22 sacrificed their lives for freedom and land.

Many of these young people went to the battlefield in the prime of their lives, some having just finished secondary school, others on the verge of completing their higher education or military service. They demonstrated unparalleled examples of heroism in the battles for Shusha, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli, Hadrut, and other liberated regions.

Each of them has become a symbol of the invincible spirit of the Azerbaijani Army and the young generation's loyalty to the homeland. The families of the martyrs, their comrades-in-arms, and the entire nation are proud of these young heroes. Their memory is always held in high esteem, and their names are given to schools, streets, and monuments.

The Victory achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War was made possible thanks to the sacrifice and bravery of thousands of such young people. Today, the army protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of independent Azerbaijan is further strengthened by the successors of that heroic generation.
