The role of Chinese scientists in global scientific research is rapidly increasing. According to “The Straits Times”, China is on the verge of catching up with the US in terms of scientific productivity indicators in recent years.
According to information obtained by AzEdu.az from foreign media, in 2023, the Chinese side took the lead with 45% in joint scientific works carried out between US and Chinese scientists. For comparison, in 2010, this indicator was only 30%. This increase indicates a significant strengthening of China's position in science at the international level over the last 10 years.
Experts state that this result is linked to the Chinese government's financial support for scientific research activities and expanding investments in technology and innovation. Particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, energy, and materials science, the number of scientific publications and citations by Chinese scientists has sharply increased.
The research also notes that the US still holds a superior position in terms of overall scientific impact indicators, but China has already become a serious competitor for scientific leadership in many fields.
Experts do not rule out that if this trend continues, Chinese scientists could surpass the US in global scientific research within the next 5-10 years.
