From scientists regarding the restoration of tropical forests important discovery

Scientific researchers have identified a soil factor that doubles the speed of forest restoration.

AzEdu.az, referring to foreign media, reports that tropical forests can recover twice as fast after deforestation when there is sufficient nitrogen in their soils.

Scientists have discovered that nitrogen plays a decisive role in the regrowth rate of trees during observations conducted over decades in the Central American region. Research results show that faster forest restoration simultaneously allows for more carbon absorption from the atmosphere, which is of significant importance in combating climate change.

This scientific work, led by scientists from the University of Leeds, is considered the most extensive and long-term study to date investigating the impact of nutrients on forest restoration. The research primarily covered tropical areas previously cleared for forestry and agricultural purposes.

Experts note that these results can contribute to the development of more efficient and sustainable forest restoration strategies that are independent of fertilizers and based on natural processes.
