Traditional Brazilian plant shows unexpected effect against arthritis.
According to news obtained by AzEdu.az from foreign media, a scientific study conducted in Brazil has revealed that a simple coastal plant, used for many years in folk medicine, may possess a powerful effect against inflammation and arthritis.
According to the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), laboratory tests conducted on the plant “Joseph’s Coat” (scientifically known as Alternanthera species) have shown that it significantly reduced arthritis symptoms. During the study, it was observed that the plant extract reduced swelling, improved joint condition, and positively affected tissue protection.
Scientists have stated that the extract also yielded promising results in terms of safety at test doses. This could create new opportunities for the development of plant-based, natural anti-inflammatory preparations in the future.
The study authors note that although the results are preliminary, the scientific study of plants used in folk medicine once again proves that it can make significant contributions to modern medicine.
