A portion of young people completing their bachelor's education in Azerbaijan attach particular importance to master's education and consider this stage crucial for academic and professional development. However, according to opinions frequently voiced in the educational community, master's education in our country often does not significantly differ in essence from the bachelor's level.
Although this approach is particularly put forward in relation to universities in the capital, the existence and actual situation of master's education in regional universities also generate interest.
It is precisely in this context that the number of allocated plan places for master's degrees in regional universities and the occupancy rate of these places for the 2025-2026 academic year come into focus.
AzEdu.az conducted a survey among regional universities regarding the topic.
In response to our survey, Mingachevir State University (MDU) stated that a total of 204 plan places were allocated for the master's level at the university for the 2025-2026 academic year. Based on the results of the admission process, 176 of these places have been filled.
Azerbaijan University of Technology (ATU) reported that 173 plan places were allocated for the master's level for the 2025-2026 academic year. In the aforementioned academic year, 116 people were admitted to ATU's master's program. The admission process was conducted across a total of 18 specialties.
In addition, a survey was sent to the regional branches of universities in the capital. According to information provided by Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU), master's education is not available in the university's regional branches.
While master's education was available in previous years at the Zaqatala branch of Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), currently, no teaching is conducted at this level.
It should be noted that Baku State University, Lankaran State University, and Ganja State University did not respond to our survey.
