Even teachers over 60 years old teach IT courses in universities - SURVEY

Fields that meet the demands of the modern era, especially specialties encompassing information technologies, require innovative and effective approaches from both young and knowledgeable teachers. In society, it is sometimes thought that this field can only be taught by young personnel, but the combination of experience and innovation makes the teaching process richer and of higher quality.

It is interesting to know, what is the age range of teachers lecturing in universities for this specialty?

Regarding the topic, the AzEdu.az Education Portal has sent an inquiry to universities.

In response to our inquiry, Baku Eurasian University (BAAU) stated that, in the Department of Mathematics and ICT, there are a total of 13 teachers lecturing in the information technologies specialty:

“According to the information, the age of the teachers ranges between 24 and 60. The oldest teacher is 60 years old, and the youngest teacher is 24 years old. Teachers around the age of 30 constitute the majority in the collective.

The age indicators of the teachers on the list are as follows:

Bahar Asgarova is 56, Parvana Hasanova is 60, Turkan Hasanova is 31, Nigar Gadimova is 31, Seljan Zulfugarova is 46, Gulnar Najiyeva is 24, Ayaz Mammadov is 27, Afag Mansirli is 25, Parviz Namazli is 26, Parvana Rashidova is 31, Ashraf Jafarli is 30, Musa Bayramli is 29, and Karim Tahiroglu is 48 years oldTop of Form”.

According to information from Sumgayit State University (SSU), the Information Technologies specialty is organized in accordance with modern educational standards and covers both information technologies and cybersecurity directions:

The average age of the professor-teacher staff lecturing in the specialty is between 40-41. This indicator shows that teachers possess both sufficient academic and pedagogical experience and the ability to promptly follow innovations in the field and apply them to the teaching process”.

Lankaran State University (LSU) noted that a total of 14 professor-teacher staff are involved in the teaching process for the relevant specialty:

“The age indicators of the teachers range between 28 and 66. The youngest teacher in the collective is 28 years old, and the oldest teacher is 66 years old. The average age of the professor-teacher staff is 45.

The mentioned age range indicates the presence of academic staff representing different generations. This, on one hand, allows for the integration of young and innovative approaches, and on the other hand, long-term scientific-pedagogical experience and academic tradition into the teaching process”.
