Cases of temporary or permanent expulsion of students from higher education institutions are encountered at certain periods.
It is interesting to know, what was the number of students covered by this procedure in the I semester of the 2025-2026 academic year?
AzEdu.az Education Portal sent an inquiry to universities regarding the topic.
In response to our inquiry, the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU) reported that 164 students were expelled from the university:
“Of these, 139 left the university for various reasons, mainly at their own request, due to tuition fee debt, death, and other circumstances. The majority of expulsions occurred at the students' personal request.
In addition, 1 student was expelled from the university for violating disciplinary rules. The other 24 students were transferred to another higher education institution to continue their higher education”.
According to the information we obtained from Azerbaijan University (AU), a total of 41 students were expelled from Azerbaijan University in the autumn semester of the 2025/2026 academic year: 39 students at their own request, and 2 students based on the deans' recommendations:
“The reasons for students' expulsion at their own request vary. 4 individuals were expelled because they started employment, 4 due to health reasons, 1 because they were admitted to a foreign university, 18 for personal reasons, 6 due to financial circumstances, and 6 for other reasons, all based on their own applications”.
It was reported by Sumgayit State University that, a total of 47 students were expelled from Sumgayit State University for various reasons during the I semester of the 2025/2026 academic year:
“Of the expulsion cases, 32 students were expelled from the university at their own request, and 15 students due to transfer to other higher education institutions”.
According to information provided by the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (ASUCA), 34 students were expelled from the university:
“Of these, 33 individuals were expelled at their own request, and 1 individual for violating disciplinary rules”.
The Azerbaijan University of Tourism and Management (AUTM) reported that, no one was expelled by the university:
“Our students either take academic leave or are expelled at their own request. Specifically, 26 individuals took academic leave, and 35 were expelled”.
It was noted by the Azerbaijan Technical University that, no students were expelled:
“Specifically, approximately 50 students took academic leave”.
In response to your inquiry, Mingachevir State University (MSU) reported that a total of 25 students were expelled from the higher education institution in the I semester of the 2025-2026 academic year.
"Of these, 24 are bachelor's level students, and 1 is a master's level student. In all mentioned cases, the expulsion was carried out based on the students' personal request (at their own will). No cases of expulsion due to academic disciplinary violations or other administrative reasons were recorded".
It should be noted that no expulsions were recorded at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) and Azerbaijan Technological University (ATU).
