In recent years, serious reforms have been carried out in the country regarding the training of medical personnel. One of the important stages of this process is residency education. However, concerns related to this field occasionally arise.
One of the main concerns is the extreme difficulty of residency exams, the limited preparation opportunities, and the existence of questions regarding transparency in the evaluation system. In a situation where specialization in the medical field is of great importance, the causes of these problems and possible solutions become relevant.
It is interesting to consider how the extreme difficulty of residency exams affects the quality of medical personnel. To what extent do the level and content of exam questions align with real medical knowledge?
Medical expert Rasif Bağırov, commenting on the topic to AzEdu.az, stated that the duration of the residency education stage is somewhat long:
“However, the issue of admission to residency is indeed very difficult. For example, we have investigated and found that admission to residency in Azerbaijan is much harder than the exam given for specialization in Turkey. In fact, there is no point in burdening students by introducing additional and unnecessary exams.
If they pass all exams in their specialty, there is no serious problem. However, students face difficulties in passing the exam. Therefore, I believe that the exams should be made easier. Furthermore, students who complete residency must be provided with employment. Sometimes, a person who completes residency has to take another exam to work.
If they have studied with such effort and doctors confirm that the person has completed residency in that specialty, then this person should be provided with employment. Their life is already spent taking exams. It's not possible to take so many exams. Therefore, such factors must definitely be taken into account”.
