Television hinders children's development - warning from doctors

Russian pediatric neuropathologist Galina Nevryuzina stated that watching television significantly affects children's development.

AzEdu.az, citing gazeta.ru, reports that the presence of an active television in the room reduces a child's need to communicate with others and hinders their development.

"Children show the best development when playing with peers or adults. Only under such conditions can they develop an interest in independent, more complex, and meaningful play," the expert explained.

Nevryuzina added that television programs for children do not always promote learning and sometimes hinder it. The more time a child spends in front of a screen, the greater the risk of experiencing speech delays, attention disorders, and reading difficulties in the future.

"There is a lot of data proving the negative impact of screen time on the brain development of young children. It has been confirmed that the more time a child dedicates to television or a computer, the more their mental and physical activity decreases. This can lead to obesity and sleep disorders in the long term. Such children become more irritable, and a tendency towards aggression is observed within the family," the doctor warned.

According to the expert, another problem is parents' excessive use of gadgets. Adults spending too much time on their phones reduces the quality of their communication with their children.

"If parents want to have the time and desire to talk, play with, and answer their children's questions, they must first limit their dependence on devices," Nevryuzina concluded.
