Will artificial intelligence also threaten the IT sector in the future?

The modern era is regarded as the beginning of a new stage in human history - the era of artificial intelligence (AI). The rapid development of technology affects many areas, from people's daily lifestyles to the labor market. Many professions and specializations are already facing the threat of losing their relevance in the face of artificial intelligence's capabilities.

Particularly concerning fields previously referred to as “professions of the future,” such as information technology (IT), there are opinions suggesting that these areas too could be replaced by artificial intelligence in the near future. This is because today, many tasks, from the simplest programming operations to complex analysis and coding processes, can be carried out through artificial intelligence.

It is interesting to consider whether the IT sector will also be replaced by artificial intelligence?

Commenting on the topic to AzEdu.az, STM employee and education researcher Elmin Nuri noted that artificial intelligence, a key event of the 21st century, will not be without impact on education, just as it affects many other fields:

“The impact of artificial intelligence on education will be realized through several mechanisms. This process has already begun. Many countries and major universities around the world are working towards the application of artificial intelligence in education.

All three sides of the education triangle – teachers, parents, and students – are trying to learn the mechanisms of how artificial intelligence can be used to enhance the quality of education. I would very much like teachers, in particular, to have a higher interest in learning in this direction. Today, we should not view artificial intelligence merely as a “Google search,” but as an entirely different source of ideas and an element that improves the quality of education.

Geoffrey Hinton, considered the “godfather” of artificial intelligence, also believes that AI can never replace the role of a teacher in education. It is merely a tool that assists teachers and makes their work more professional. Today, opinions are voiced about artificial intelligence, suggesting that it could eliminate human labor. However, I strongly disagree with this. Because every time a new industrial revolution occurs, the same ideas are repeated. When newspapers emerged, people thought book printing would decline; when radio appeared, they thought newspapers would die; when television came out, they thought radio would become obsolete; and when the internet emerged, they believed all of these would disappear.

However, every newly discovered element is a more expanded, simplified, and quality-oriented form of the subsequent stage. There is such a tendency in science: when the calculator was invented, people thought there would be no need for the science of arithmetic. But today, which specialist can you imagine without a calculator? Naturally, none.

Humans must befriend technology and artificial intelligence. Today, regardless of our field, we must learn to work correctly with artificial intelligence and acquire skills related to its application. This is the demand of the era. Teachers and other professionals should not worry that artificial intelligence will supposedly take away their professions. No. On the contrary, artificial intelligence exists to create additional opportunities for them. One must absolutely believe in this”.
