Only a few days remain until the graduation exam for applicants.
AzEdu.az contacted Sona Nurməmmədli, a graduate of full secondary school No. 272 last year, who was admitted to the medical specialty of Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) by scoring a maximum of 700 points in the admission exams.
She shared her recommendations with applicants preparing for this year's exams. She revealed her thoughts on the main ways to achieve success, proper planning, time management, and the importance of psychological preparation. The advice of a student who achieved high results can serve as motivation and guidance for this year's applicants.
S. Nurməmmədli stated that she mainly worked on tests in the last week before the exam:
“In the last week before the graduation exam, I mainly worked on questions from previous years' graduation exams. I reviewed the topics that seemed most difficult to me in the graduation subjects and re-solved questions related to those topics from the SEC's test collections. I worked most on tests for the Azerbaijani language subject, as this subject seemed more challenging to me than the other two graduation subjects. For other topics, I also selected and solved the most difficult questions from the test collections. In short, during the last week, I worked almost exclusively on additional practice tests.
In the exam, following the order in the question booklet, I first answered the questions for English, then Azerbaijani, and finally Mathematics. I first noted the answers to closed-ended questions in the booklet, and for open-ended questions, I wrote those I was confident about directly onto the answer sheet. Finally, I rechecked the closed-ended questions I had noted in the booklet and transferred them to the answer sheet. The text-based questions in Azerbaijani language took up most of my time.”
She believes that the most important issue is proper time management:
“In my opinion, it would be better if applicants first answered the questions they find easy. Spending hours on difficult questions is both tiring and time-consuming. Special attention should be paid to sleep patterns the day before the exam.
Sometimes, after the exam, applicants, due to anxiety, think that they have not coded their answer sheets correctly and assume they will score low. I also experienced these feelings; I doubted myself every day for about a month until the results were announced. Such feelings are completely normal. However, it is not right to turn this into excessive stress for oneself. This changes nothing. On the contrary, one should look positively towards the future and believe that their results will be high.”
