A large-scale plan of events in connection with the month of Ramadan is beginning to be implemented in Turkey's educational institutions.
AzEdu.az reports, citing the Turkish press, that according to the official directive sent to 81 provinces of the country with the signature of National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin, this program will cover all students from preschool to high school level. The document states that the main purpose of the events is to strengthen national-moral values in students and instill religious traditions in them.
“According to the new plan implemented within the framework of the “Turkey Century Education Model”, even minors in the 4-6 age group will be involved in this process. It is envisioned that kindergarten-aged children will visit mosques under the supervision of teachers, become familiar with places of worship there, and be explained concepts such as suhoor and iftar. At the same time, rules of conduct within the mosque will also be taught practically to minors.
More specific tasks have been defined for primary school students. A special “Mosque Visit Observation Form” has been prepared for them, and children will be required to record what they observe during these visits. In middle and high school grades, religious education activities will be conducted through discussions titled “Let's Talk at Iftar”. Students studying in these grades will be assigned to keep a personal diary throughout the month of Ramadan.
It is also planned to create a thematic environment within schools. The establishment of “Ramadan tables” and the organization of special corners reflecting the festive atmosphere in educational institutions are integral parts of the program. It is emphasized that these steps will increase the role of moral education in the education system.
