Starting from 2027, a new examination model to be applied for foreign language subjects in the final attestation of students studying at the full (11-year) secondary education level has been put up for public discussion. According to the proposed model, listening and reading skills will be assessed with closed-type test tasks, while writing skills will be checked through a written assignment of a minimum of 100 words.
In the new examination model, how many points will each of the tasks for listening, reading, lexical-grammatical, and writing skills be evaluated with, specifically, how will the share of the writing task of at least 100 words be determined in the final result, and what balance is expected between the skills during point distribution?
Regarding the topic, AzEdu.az sent an inquiry to the State Examination Center.
In response to our inquiry, the Center stated that in the graduation examination for the full (11-year) secondary education level, scheduled for implementation in 2027 (the first stage of the admission examination), the task requiring a short written assignment of at least 100 words based on a given idea or topic in the foreign language subjects test block will be evaluated by markers on a 5-point scale based on criteria:
"Criterion A will consider the fulfillment of the task. The relevance of the written work to the topic, adherence to the required volume, clear expression of the main idea, and the presence of supporting sentences and a concluding thought will be evaluated. A maximum of 1 point can be obtained for this sub-criterion.
Criterion B will consider the coverage of the topic and logical sequence. The sequential presentation of ideas, the mention of both positive (for) and negative (against) aspects, the preservation of logical connection between sentences, and the level of use of appropriate cohesive devices will be evaluated. The maximum score for this sub-criterion is 2.
Criterion C will consider adherence to grammatical rules. Correct use of various sentence structures and grammatical errors not hindering the understanding of the content will be taken as a basis. The maximum score for this sub-criterion is 1.
Criterion D will consider the diversity and use of vocabulary. Appropriate use of topic-relevant words, lexical variety, and avoidance of unnecessary repetitions will be evaluated. The maximum score for this sub-criterion is 1.
Committed lexical and grammatical errors affect the final score. Thus, participants can score a maximum of 5 points for this task. The results are then adjusted to the usual 100-point evaluation scale using a special calculation formula, together with the points obtained from other tasks, and the final score for the subject is derived".
