Artificial intelligence specialization is coming to universities - demand will increase, passing score will rise...

If we want to compete with world states in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), or join the struggle in this field, artificial intelligence specializations must definitely be opened in secondary schools and universities. I have emphasized this many times.

Education expert Ramin Nurəliyev stated these views during his statement to AzEdu.az.

“The initiative to introduce artificial intelligence specializations to higher education institutions was first put forward by me, and I came up with this idea. If we want to compete with world states in the field of AI, artificial intelligence specializations must definitely be opened in secondary schools and universities. I have emphasized this many times.

I believe that these specializations are expected to be opened in higher education institutions starting from the next academic year, and the process has already begun in some universities. The minister has also given the first signals regarding the teaching of artificial intelligence subjects in general secondary schools. I think that AI classes will also be held in secondary schools in the near future. This is a very positive and commendable initiative.

Because if we want to compete with the developed countries of the world in the field of artificial intelligence, we must lay the foundation for this work precisely from secondary schools and universities. It is gratifying that steps are already being taken in this direction".

In the near future, we will witness concrete achievements in this field:

“Because we have very capable and potential-rich young people. I look at the materials shared by secondary school students and higher education institution students on social platforms related to artificial intelligence, and this is truly a source of pride. The interest of our youth in this field should be highly appreciated.

So, what innovations can artificial intelligence bring to Azerbaijani education? I think it's not just about Azerbaijani education. Artificial intelligence already covers many fields worldwide and demonstrates its superiority. Today, AI has proven to be promising in several areas.

In the future, it is also possible that some specializations and professions will become passive under the influence of artificial intelligence. For example, if ten accountants worked previously, only two or three of them might remain in the future, with the remaining tasks managed by artificial intelligence. This impact will manifest not only for accountants but also for shop assistants and even teachers".

We should not open this specialization merely formally:

“Artificial intelligence will already be able to partially replace teachers through robot technologies. It can be said that artificial intelligence will come to the forefront in many key areas. Therefore, I believe that starting this work on time will yield positive results. Interest in artificial intelligence should be awakened in students in secondary schools, and this interest should be developed in higher education institutions. At the same time, we must strive to connect with the world and compete in this field.

If some jobs decrease in the future and artificial intelligence replaces them, this will lead to an even greater increase in interest in the field of AI. Therefore, developing interest in artificial intelligence among children and young people is extremely important. For this, artificial intelligence specializations must definitely be opened, and lessons must be taught in secondary schools. Naturally, serious preparation is required for this. A material and technical base must be created, and provision with modern equipment must be carried out. Additional lessons and practical exercises must definitely be provided for pupils and students.

We should not open this specialization merely formally. That is, it would not be correct to start artificial intelligence education with an approach where only theoretical knowledge is provided and practical skills are not transferred. On the contrary, practical knowledge should hold a primary place in this field. Suitable universities should be selected in this direction, necessary financial resources should be allocated, and professional specialists should be involved in the teaching process. Only in this case can real and sustainable achievements be made in the field of artificial intelligence. This is an extremely important and strategic issue.

In my opinion, applicants from the I specialization groups are enthusiastic about this specialization. This specialization will create serious competition with other computer-oriented specializations. In particular, it will be at the same level as the passing scores for computer engineering, information technology, and security specializations.

And I am not in favor of opening this specialization in every university. It is more advisable to offer it to higher education institutions that have already made a name for themselves in this field. Especially ADA, BANM, UNEC, ADNSU, AzMIU, and Karabakh Universities, and among private higher education institutions, Khazar University, are good choices for opening these specializations. The artificial intelligence specialization may have higher passing scores than other computer-oriented specializations in some universities. This is a field opening up to the future".
