Member of Parliament: The teaching of the Armenian language must begin in Azerbaijan

In the 2025-2026 academic year, Azerbaijani language courses will be introduced in three state schools in Armenia.

Thus, according to the program, Azerbaijani and Turkish languages will be taught to students in grades 10-12, and Persian and Georgian languages from grade 5 onwards. The program will be voluntary and will depend on the availability of qualified teachers.

It is interesting to consider whether Armenian language instruction could be offered in secondary general education institutions in Azerbaijan in the future.

Commenting on the topic to AzEdu.az, MP Ceyhun Məmmədov noted that for many years, work has been underway in Armenia regarding the study of both the state of Azerbaijan and Turkey:

“They continuously train specialists in this field and are also interested in studying the processes taking place in our country. Therefore, they regularly analyze Azerbaijan.

According to recent reports, the teaching of the Azerbaijani language has already begun in three schools. I believe that we should also take steps in this direction. It is important to seriously study Armenia. Currently, some centers and institutions are active in this area, but I think that the teaching of the Armenian language should begin in higher education institutions, and at the same time, this process should be initiated in several general education schools.

Although the peace process is currently ongoing, we are neighboring countries. Armenia only reckons with us today because we are strong. However, this country will always be interested in processes related to Azerbaijan. Therefore, it is necessary to start activities in this area without delay.

Several parallel tasks should be carried out in this direction: first and foremost, a deep study of Armenia – its history, literature, and other fields should be examined. At the same time, there is a need to train specialists who know the Armenian language.

Sometimes, the misconception arises that Armenia is an enemy and there is no need to learn its language. However, in reality, knowing the enemy's language is essential. I am speaking here about the past, as we have now entered a period of peace and are taking steps in this direction.

I believe that this process should be initiated without delay and promptly. The teaching of the Armenian language could begin in several schools. If this is implemented not on a mass scale, but at the level of training a certain number of specialists, it could be a significant contribution to our country".
