A part of young people do not show interest in studying at the master's level after completing their bachelor's education. In their opinion, they may not acquire new knowledge and skills at this stage. However, experts disagree with this and emphasize the importance of master's education for both scientific and professional development.
Commenting on this topic, Ilgar Orujov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Society of Young Scientists, Doctoral Students and Masters, Doctor of Philosophy, stated in his statement to AzEdu.az that bachelor's and master's education levels serve different purposes.
The master's level requires a more research-oriented approach and is of great importance for acquiring deeper, specialized knowledge in the field.
"I do not think that master's education is insignificant for any specialty. On the contrary, I believe that this level is extremely important. However, there are some fields where practical skills and real work experience are as important as theoretical knowledge. For example, in specialties such as accounting, journalism, and digitalization, practical competencies, individual approach, and experience play an important role alongside theoretical knowledge.
In addition, master's education is also important from a career perspective. Imagine there are two graduates who have completed their bachelor's education in the same specialty – one has also completed the master's level, and the other has not. When comparing the knowledge and skills of these two graduates, it is possible to see that the person with a master's degree is better prepared both theoretically and practically.
Master's education develops the ability to conduct academic research, strengthens analytical thinking and scientific reasoning skills. This also positively affects the quality of professional activity.
Overall, I believe that master's education is important for all specialties. This level is a very important stage for both professional career development and the acquisition of deeper and more substantiated knowledge".
