The registration process for the first attempt of the master's level admission examination has now concluded. As in previous years, the number of bachelors wishing to pursue master's education this year is one of the key points of interest. The official statistical indicators released clearly show the preferences of candidates both in terms of numbers and in terms of section and foreign language choice.
AzEdu.az reports that a total of 22,777 people registered for the first attempt of the master's admission examination for the 2026/2027 academic year. Of those registered, 20,786 will participate in the examination in the Azerbaijani section, and 1,991 in the Russian section. These indicators once again show that the main preference in master's examinations belongs to candidates in the Azerbaijani section.
Statistics on foreign language choice also present an interesting picture. The vast majority of candidates chose English. A total of 19,871 people registered for this language. Registration figures for other foreign languages are significantly lower, which indicates that English remains the main priority at the master's level.
For comparison, it should be noted that in the 2024/2025 academic year, 21,924 bachelors participated in the first attempt of the master's admission examination. Of these, 20,057 were candidates from the Azerbaijani section, and 1,867 were from the Russian section. A comparison of the statistical indicators reveals an increase of 853 applicants this year.
Consequently, although this increase is not sharp, it indicates a steady continuation of interest in master's education. This dynamic in the number of candidates may have a certain impact on both the planned places and the level of competition in the admission process. It is of interest how these statistical indicators will be reflected in the admission results in the upcoming stages.
