RECORD in the number of applicants to higher education institutions - STATISTICS by years

In 2023-2026, the number of applicants submitting electronic applications to higher and secondary specialized education institutions in the Republic of Azerbaijan showed a continuous increase.

AzEdu.az reports that education expert Elchin Afandi provided information regarding this.

Specifically, in 2023, the number of applicants submitting electronic applications to higher education institutions was 101,489 people, of whom 92,544 people were for the Azerbaijani section, and 8,945 people registered for the Russian section. In the same year, the number of applicants to colleges amounted to 89,416 people, of whom 83,740 people were for the Azerbaijani section, and 5,676 people were for the Russian section.

In 2024, the number of applicants to higher education institutions increased to 110,354 people, with 100,259 applying to the Azerbaijani section, and 10,095 people applying to the Russian section. The number of applicants submitting electronic applications to colleges was 96,667 people, with 89,858 in the Azerbaijani section, and 6,809 people submitting applications in the Russian section.

In 2025, the number of applicants to higher education institutions reached 124,334 people, with 112,912 people applying for the Azerbaijani section, and 11,422 people applying for the Russian section. At the same time, the number of applicants to colleges amounted to 112,893 people, of whom 104,513 people were for the Azerbaijani section, and 8,378 people were for the Russian section.

In 2026, the number of applicants submitting applications to higher education institutions was 129,655 people, with 120,672 for the Azerbaijani section, and 12,718 people for the Russian section. The number of applicants to colleges, in turn, reached 120,378 people, with 110,363 for the Azerbaijani section, and 10,015 people registered for the Russian section.

The data shows that the number of applicants to both higher and secondary specialized education institutions is increasing year by year, and applications to the Azerbaijani section are more numerous than to the Russian section.
